The clinic has its origins in a solo general practice established by Dr Vaughan Lenny in Malvern Road, South Yarra in the early 80’s. He was subsequently joined by Dr Howard Wraight and the practice moved to 138 Williams Road Prahran.

In January 1990 Dr Lenny retired due to ill health and Dr Norman Roth moved from general practice in Geelong to join the clinic. In the early 90’s the clinic became involved in the first of many clinical trials researching treatments for HIV patients. At this time Dr Andrew Buchanan joined the practice.

In 1994, with a growing patient base and research workload, the clinic needed more space and moved to 131 Commercial Road, South Yarra and was renamed Prahran Market Clinic. Shortly after this move, Dr Wraight left to work within the pharmaceutical industry and Dr Beng Eu joined the clinic from his previous position in general practice in Gippsland.

Dr Sven Strecker joined the practice, initially as a GP trainee, then, when Andrew reduced his role to work with the Juvenile Justice System, Dr Strecker stepped up to the challenge to become the third director of the clinic with Dr Roth and Dr Eu

Since then the practice has continued to grow and add complementary allied health services. PMC continues to be actively involved in clinical research, teaching and cooperation with national bodies such as NCHECR based at UNSW.

As the clinic looks to the future it has re committed itself to the community it serves and has relocated to new larger purpose built rooms in Pran Central on the corner of Commercial Road and Chapel Street Prahran.
